*xakafi (2010-09-25 04:02:29) 2 years ago why did you like it???? I would like to present you a complete repertoire for black against 1.d4 based on the Queen's Gambit Declined (QGD) and to share my thoughts and ideas with you! That is a monster of an opening and you have to be well prepared against it, and it is pretty different from the Queen's gambit declined. G3 … White goes for a Catalan-style development. The minimum openings I'd recommend for black would be stuff like the Benko Gambit, Scandinavian Defenses (although I think the Scandinavian is a really lame opening) and so forth, while with white you can still get away with the c3 Sicilian, and 3.Nc3, 3. But I have a big problem with two lines (I suppose because I just love these lines as white, and don't get excited about them as black just yet) Those are the Queen's Gambit declined exchange variation (my usual repertoire choice as it rules out the Cambridge Springs variation) I just dont LOVE black here. In order to prevent this easy attacking plan, the ingenious 15.Re4 has been tried. The Catalan is an attempt to turn the Reti into a pressure opening. Black then continues 15Bg4 and after 16.Qd3 he has 16Rae8 17.Nd2 and now 17f5 or 17Re6, to name just a few of the more characteristic ideas. We saw one of the first Queen's Gambit of the tournament, which looked pretty safe for black. It's an interesting line of the Marshall Defense to the Queen's Gambit (one of my favorite dubious openings): Gjon Feinstein — Dana Mackenzie. Boris Gelfand played a Catalan opening against Wang Hao. E4, the Stonewall Attack, or the Colle System. Gjon has played this before against me and I think that some other It looks a little loose for Black, but computer analysis gives only a small edge to White after 8. All theoretical explainations are also available on youtube! Black's problems will occur in the middlegame, which is outside the scope of this series. This is slightly counter-intuitive to me, but perhaps I have been conditioned too much by old-fashioned opening manuals who treated the Queen's Gambit and the Catalan as entirely different complexes. D4 leaves black without any advantage. 3, that the chief virtue of the All Purpose System for Black was that it could be played not only against the Queen's Gambit but also against any opening at all except 1. King's gambit, Latvian gambit, Philidor's defense, Petrov's defense, Ponziani Opening, Scotch Opening, Scotch gambit, Four knights game, Giuoco Piano, Evans gambit, Ruy Lopez, Colle system, Queen's Gambit, Catalan Opening, *ladame (2010-08-21 09:16:55) 2 years ago 1.
